You need to re-code the MKV file to MP4 AC3 or other supported codecs by Samsung Smart TV.

If your Smart TV can’t play MKV files, that’s because of the video codec inside the MKV file. Samsung Smart TV is actually compatible with MKV format. For example, Samsung TV has poor compatibility with Dolby True Audio and DTS Audio, and if these audio codecs are present in the MKV file, they cannot be played on Samsung TV. This problem arises if the MKV file contains any audio codec, subtitle, or image that is not supported by Samsung TV, it cannot be played. To watch an MKV file using VLC, right-click the MKV file, point to “Open With,” and then choose “VLC Media Player.” To make VLC the default player for MKV files so that you can just double-click a file when you want to watch a video, right-click any MKV file, point to “Open With,” and then click “Choose Another App.” Why can’t I play MKV files on my TV? Why does this happen? The reason is that MKV is a container format which may contain multiple video and audio streams encoded with various codecs. MKV is among Samsung TV supported video formats, however, some users still encounter incompatibility issues when playing MKV files on Samsung TV via USB port.

If it makes sense perhaps I can offer to donate some time to write the code to go with it - if that is an option that would interest you. I'm guessing this would all fall in the "room for future improvement" category! ) I see 5 possible pathways in this scenario:īonus points for taking one more small step which would involve a file naming regex or simple pattern (say all *.mp4 are defaulted at do it, otherwise don't is the default).ĭoes it make more sense now that I've explained it this way? I was trying to understand if there was a way to configure things so that, for example, it would default to using the remembered settings but first would prompt for, say 3 seconds and allow the user to override that action. I realize I can disable that part of the feature. Please let me know if I am missing or not understanding something.Īgain, I do realize I could get the source! LOLĪdvTHANKSance! Obviously their implementation and design of this feature is badly broken (like most of the UI design). Even VLCPlayer provides a user prompt where they can opt-in and click a button to resume where they left off. But I'm kind surprised by SMPlayer as well and I hope that I'm just missing something on this! LOL But what if I don't WANT the saved settings/time-index used when I play a file? Both in the app, and also from the context menu! But so far I don't see a way to override the default of using those saved settings and time-index. I think it's a great idea, honestly I'm shocked every app doesn't have that, it's also nice that it actually works unlike VLCPlayer at least for the current build. One of the reasons I decided to migrate to SMPlayer and not any of the other MPlayer UI apps is this feature - remembering the playlist, and remembering the time index of a file when it was last played.
